Grief, Change and Loss

Our topic is Grief,Change and loss.We had looked at a book called Brodie. It was about a boy who had cancer and was sick for a while and he ended up dying. So we had to write a story about the passing of a loved one. Some of us had never experienced Losing someone. So they made up their own. This next story is Mackenzie's (year 6) about losing her cat called Stella.

STELLA
It was 11 o clock on Mothers day 2009. Mum, Dad, Rylee ,Lachy & I were just about to go out for Mothers Day lunch. Next thing we heard was a loud 'Miaow' It sounded like a squeaky gate. Dad went out and looked around the padio. He came back with a worried look on his face, then quitly he said We might need to take Stella to the vet"

We all got out of the car and went to go see stella. We couldn't really see anything because there was so much blood. Next thing I knew I felt sick with worry. While Dad tried to put Stella in the cage,we went around the house to figure out what had happened. Mum found a metal rake lying by the gate so we thought she had ran into it.

When we got to the vet, us kids stayed in the waiting room and my Sister bawled her eyes out. My Mum came out and said " She's not looking good. We have a decision to make. We either pay around $1000 for her to have an operation, she will need to be on medicine for 3 months and she'll still be in pain or we can put her down and she can sleep in the garden'. 'Mum what is wrong with her anyway, said my sister with a sniff. Just come in to see 'We went in and what we saw was gruesome. Can you guess ? Blood blood and more blood. She has done some serious damage and has almost cut her tounge off and crushed her jaw.'Then my sister lost it .She burst into tears. Mum sent us back out to the waiting room.

Later on Mum came out and said "We're going to put her down". At first us kids just nodded at the shock of not having Stella walking around the house anymore. Then a tear ran down my face. Mum quickly changed the subject ."Come on ,let's get to that lunch",she said putting an arm around me.

When we got to the restaurant we forgot all about Stella (I supposed thats good and bad.)Now she is in the garden to rest in peace, with our other cats that have died.
